(FCR)
RESEARCH PROJECT
THE ASSOCIATION FOR NEW CANADIANS (ANC) PRESENTS THE FINDINGS OF
A FOREIGN CREDENTIAL RECOGNITION INITIATIVE (FCR) RESEARCH PROJECT
St. John’s, NL – June 26, 2007
The Association for New Canadians (ANC) Newfoundland and Labrador has conducted a study concerning the integration of immigrants into the Newfoundland and Labrador workforce, focusing on foreign credential recognition. Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) is one of the key components of the federal government’s Internationally Trained Workers Initiative, and the ANC research project is a part of this federal initiative. Through funding provided by Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC), the Association for New Canadians has conducted this province-wide research project, and presents its findings in the report CARE – Connect, Accept, Recognize, Empower: The Integration of Immigrants into the Newfoundland and Labrador Workforce.
The main goal of the project is to help reduce labour market shortages and grow the economy in this province by promoting the benefits of accessing a highly skilled and motivated workforce with international skill sets and experiences.
The final report summarizes the key themes that emerge regarding immigrant retention, integration and employment in Newfoundland and Labrador. It also identifies potential employment barriers, effective incentives for hiring immigrants, and suggests actions required to break down these barriers.
