Host Program
The Association for New Canadians welcomes and values the ongoing support of committed volunteers who contribute to the Host Program. This program matches permanent residents with volunteers who help them adjust to life in Canada. Volunteers help newcomers overcome the stress of moving to a new country, learn how to use available services, practice their English or French, develop work contacts, participate in the community and do routine activities such as banking, shopping, and using local transit. Just as important, hosts provide encouragement and emotional support. In so doing, they gain new friends, learn about another culture and help strengthen community life. Specific volunteer programs are developed in accordance with the needs of newcomers and the preferences of volunteers.

Program Requirements: Host volunteers must be at least 17 years of age and be available to volunteer for approximately two hours a week for about six months. Scheduling is very flexible. It is also important for volunteers to be open to learning about new cultures and willing to share their own knowledge of Canada.
