REFUGEE CLAIMANT SERVICES
The Association can provide assistance with:
- Making a refugee claim, including making connections with Citizenship and Immigration Canada and the Immigration and Refugee Board.
- Contacting/accessing a lawyer at the Newfoundland Legal Aid Commission.
- Completion of registration for Human Resources and Employment.
- Accessing community services - for example, volunteer English classes, etc.
- Arranging the Immigration medical examination.
- Completing various forms - for example, applications for Social Insurance Numbers, Work Permits, etc.
- Accessing to Medical Care within the scope of their medical coverage - for example, assistance in making appointments with family doctor, assistance in accessing medical care, contacting a dentist or hospital.
- Accessing interpreter services (limited to identified need and availability of interpreters).
- Accessing various orientations through the Association (as specified by ANC).
- Accessing ANC programs according to identified need, availability and eligibility.
Many people arrive in Newfoundland and Labrador each year in the hope of claiming refugee status. In an effort to assist people as they try to survive in Canada while making their way through the refugee claim process, the Association offers integral support services that aim to meet the individual's basic needs of life.
