Volunteer Resources
Host/Volunteer Program Coordinator

The Association for New Canadians has a certified Volunteer Coordinator on staff. She is responsible for the recruitment, screening, training, placement, support, and recognition of volunteers. Any suggestions, questions or concerns should be directed to the Volunteer Coordinator.

Volunteer Orientation/Training Sessions

The Association is committed to preparing volunteers for their potential placements through sessions which introduce them to the Association for New Canadians and discuss volunteer opportunities in detail, highlighting the goals, requirements, and supports available for each program. Volunteers also learn about a number of topics relevant to assisting newcomers including:

Case studies and discussions are also incorporated into the sessions as a tool for volunteers to practice what they have learned.

English as a Second Language Resources

The Association for New Canadians has a variety of English as a Second Language resources available for volunteer tutors and teachers. These resources can be borrowed or photocopied. Please forward requests for resources to the Host/Volunteer Coordinator.

Cultural Resources

There are a variety of materials available for volunteers who would like to learn more about different cultures and newcomer experiences. The Association for New Canadians has a number of books, magazines, journals, cultural profiles, and audio-visual materials available for volunteers to use.
